Days 13 & 14 - Orvieto & Umbria

Umbria, often referred to as the "Green Heart of Italy," is a charming and picturesque region located in central Italy. The Umbrian countryside is characterized by rolling hills, vineyards, olive groves, and picturesque landscapes.

We have arrived.

Vineyards and olive groves abound as we climbed up to our next destination, Orvieto and Alta Rocca Winery and Resort.

Our room was beautiful and luxurious with a large balcony to sit, relax and enjoy the panoramic views.

View from our patio overlooking the vineyards and olive groves.

The Alta Rocca Winery Resort offers a delightful blend of wine, relaxation, and Italian hospitality and we enjoyed every minute. Our first night we had the opportunity to sample some of the vineyards finest selections and learn about the winemaking process and the unique characteristics of the local grape varieties.

The following morning while some of our group decided to head into Orvieto known for its impressive Duomo, John and I decided to spend time relaxing and wandering through the vast vineyards and olive groves.  And maybe have a glass of wine, or two, on the patio. The resort has two pools, reception, spa services, gym, a restaurant and boasts "a 360° wellness experience, finding harmony and tranquility for body and mind". It truly was a special setting and location.

The vineyards and olive groves meld together to create a delightful view as we walk the property,

It was a wonderful day and a half in the serene atmosphere of the Italian countryside while enjoying the excellent wines produced by the estate.

Savoring a glass of local wine overlooking the vineyards and countryside Orvieto left a lasting impression on us.

It's hard to believe that we are headed onto our last stop, Rome! This Italian adventure has offered us a rich tapestry of history, culture, art, cuisine, and natural beauty for us. Here we go!!!!!
